Do stores allow you to test a car seat before you purchase it?

Hello,
My husband and I are shopping for an infant car seat. We have a small car (95 Toyota Corolla) and have read some reviews that some car seats may not fit well in our car.
I’d like to know, do stores let you test the car seat before you buy it? If so, which stores?

Also, would you suggest to first buy a car seat that we like, and get a professional opinion on it (like from a car seat tech), and if its not feasible, just return it?

Would anyone happen to know certain car seats that do fit well in Corollas?

Most Babies R Us stores will allow you to try the seat in your car. For a small car, I would not get an Evenflo seat because these seats require that the handle be in the down position and have an inch and a half clearance between the handle and the seat back. This takes up a lot of room. A seat that allows the handle to remain upright would give you more room. Just off the top of my head, I know the Chicco KeyFit30 and Graco Snugride allow for the handle to be up. I’m sure there are others I’d just have to look through my manuals to see which ones.

I definitely recommend having the seat checked by a car seat tech after you get it. An estimated 9 out of 10 seats aren’t installed correctly, better to ensure yours isn’t one of them!

I drive a 2 door cavalier and our Chicco KeyFit30 fit just fine. I think you’ll be okay with anything other than evenflo (just because of their handle down and clearance rule), especially anything that allows the handle to remain up. (and personally, I prefer seats that allow the handle up anyway for safety reasons)
